Maker & Taker

A simple example to understand the difference

Definitions

Order Type
  • M
    Maker
You place an order at your chosen price. It does not fill immediately and is posted to the order book to wait for a match.
  • T
    Taker
You place an order that matches existing orders in the order book and fills instantly.

Example

Example
  • Current best ask is 1,000 USD
  • You place a buy order at 999 USD
  • Your order will be added to the order book and wait to be matched
  • Once filled, the maker pays the Maker fee, and the counterparty pays the Taker fee
